Dr. Wendy Hileman, MPH, MSW, MS

Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Board President

Wendy has more than 25 years of experience in different aspects of public health, wellness, nutrition and fitness. Wendy has a Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, dedicating her research and disseration to employee wellness programs. She received three Master's Degrees: Public Health, with an emphasis in Health Services Administration, Social Work, with an emphasis in Administration, and Industrial and Organizational Psychology. She received a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Physical Education, specializing in Athletic Training. She currently sits on two non-profit boards and has served on two other non-profit boards in the past.   She is a seasoned professional speaker, giving motivational, educational, technical presentations and conference workshops, work sites, colleges and universities, and more, in topics ranging from health and wellness, nutrition, mental and physical links, injury prevention, workplace wellness, disease management, obesity prevention and intervention, and more. She has been a regular presenter at the County of San Diego Providers Meetings, Council of Community Clinics, Police and Fire Fighters Peer Council, California Teachers Association, and more. She also works as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Southern California and Southwestern College, teaching a wide variety of topics in foundational research, program based research methods, program development and evaluation, integrated care and advanced policy. In undergraduate classes, she teaches health, nutrition, kinesiology, and activity classes.  She has also taught classes in healthcare administration, statistics, evaluations, as well as sports and business management classes.

Greg Mantuano

Chief Operations Officer, Executive Chef

Greg has about 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry. He was formally trained at the California Culinary Academy. He works behind the scenes for our youth healthy cooking classes in recipe and menu development. He also provides in-home or on-site adult cooking classes and can assist with meal planning. As a Certified Professional Food Manager, Greg serves the certification needs of the health coaches at HAF by instructing food safety classes and authorizing Food Handler's Permits. 

Lindsey Tobey

General Manager

Lindsey graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Food and Nutrition.  Her education sparked a new love for trying new foods and experimenting with healthy cooking and cooking alternatives.  Alongside her passion for food, Lindsey enjoys staying active through intramural indoor soccer and evening walks with friends and family.  She hopes to further her education with a Master's degree in Public Health in the near future.

Shadia Assi

Assistant Health Coach Supervisor

Shadia graduated from the University of California, Irvine with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Health Policy and Anthropology. With that, she has developed a great interest in approaching health and well-being through alternative means that account for community environments and social understandings. In her free time, Shadia spends time enjoying beautiful Southern California with family and friends. Her favorite pastimes include hiking, playing tennis, traveling and exploring new foods. In the future, Shadia hopes to further her education in Medical Anthropology and addressing larger global health issues.

Alexis Anderson

Senior Health Coach Lead and Youth Program Coordinator

Alexis graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Public Health. She has always been very passionate about healthy, positive living and loves having the opportunity to help others improve their own lifestyles. Drawing from her education, background as a Soccer Coach and years working as a Mental Health Counselor for underprivileged youth, she brings compassionate, optimistic outlook to Healthy Adventures Foundation.  She has always been passionate about living a healthy, active lifestyle and especially enjoys running, surfing and yoga. In her time off she loves spending time at the beach, walking her dog, reading, cooking and visiting with friends and family.  Alexis is currently finishing her Yoga Instructor Certification and has plans to return to San Diego State University to complete her Masters Degree in Public Health in the near future.

Allison Bassett

Senior Health Coach and Special Projects

With her compassion and sweetly attentive ear, Allison has been able to offer her unique coaching style to Healthy Adventures. She earned her Bachelors of Arts in Environmental Science from the University of California in Santa Barbara and completed the American Council of Exercise/UCSD certificate program in Exercise Science and Group Fitness Instruction. Allison has been an ACE Group Fitness Instructor for 3 years and a Class Instructor at the ARC at San Diego State University. Her specialties include "Zoomer" fitness, yoga, whole-body health, and cooking light. In her off time, she enjoys being a foodie, wine connoisseur, health, exercise, cooking, camping, reading, and hanging out with family and friends. One day, she hopes to learn how to surf and play the guitar. Allison is a San Diego native and fluent in American Sign Language.

Juan Nunez

Senior Health Coach and Strength and Conditioning Trainer

Juan graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Fitness Specialist. His passion for sports and living a long and healthy life has driven him to help others to become all that they can be. He enjoys living an active lifestyle hence you will find him on weekends playing soccer, leading fitness group classes, hiking up Cowles Mt. or even bike riding on the Silver Strand.  In his free time Juan performs in a rock band and loves to draw/ animate.  

Sean Blum

Health coach

Sean graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Kinesiology.  He is a dedicated health and fitness coach that devotes his time to helping individuals succeed in their goals. He enjoys learning new information and passing that material to any person willing to listen. As he continues to evolve as an individual and as a professional, he strives to make a positive difference in life, including exercise, nutrition, and general well-being. Sean enjoys playing an array of sports and spending his free time with family and friends.

Heather Bauer

Health Coach

Heather graduated from St Cloud State University in Minnesota with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Community Health. With her passion for health and nutrition she has been able to help people live a healthier lifestyle through proper education and support. She truly enjoys working with the community and making a difference in a person’s health and well-being. She has taught nutrition and cooking classes and volunteer exercise classes for a non-profit and has also worked with the county in the Public Health Department. In her free time she likes to be outside walking, biking, rollerblading or hula hooping and loves making new healthy meals on the grill.

Joey Jerome

Health Coach

Joey has his Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. He is retired Navy, with a background as a medic. Joey is a skilled group facilitator and presenter. He is a lifelong volunteer and continues to serve his community by working on the USS Midway as a docent and a variety of other community projects. 

Daniel Manzo

Health Coach Intern

Daniel is graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor's degree in Public Health. He is very passionate about health issues wanting to empower people to be all that they want to be. 

Alexis Olson

Master's of Social Work Intern, 1st year

California State University - Northridge

Alexis is a graduate from the University of Colorado Boulder with a double major in Political Science and Women and Gender Studies. She learned a great deal about marginalized populations through her women and gender studies course work which served as the catalyst towards her interest in human services and development. She has experience working with ESL children of undocumented parents, incarcerated individuals, those afflicted with HIV/HEP C, and survivors of domestic violence. She is currently working on her MSW and strives to combine health coaching with mental health counseling in the future.

Caroline Adjimi

Master's of Social Work Intern, 2nd year

California State University - San Marcos

Caroline Adjimi is an international student from Cameroon (Africa). She has two Bachelor Degrees: Psychology and History. She has always passionate about women's and children issues, specifically about ways to better their lives. This passion comes from personal issues experienced while growing up. Once she got to the United States, she learned how much HEALTH is crucial for human survival. In Cameroon, it was not easy to maintain good health due to poverty and a lack of access to resources. She has dedicated herself to get a Master’s Degree in Social work by May of 2017, and later a second Master’s Degree or perhaps a Ph.D. in Public Health. The hopes are to learn appropriate skills to help people in the United States and Cameroon. 

Sarah Darwish

Master's of Social Work Intern, 2nd year

University of Southern California

Sarah is originally from New Jersey and moved to San Diego in to study social work. She is currently in her second and final year of graduate school from University of Southern California. She has always known the importance of healthy living and has wanted to incorporate it into her social work practice. In her free time she participates in an active lifestyle at the gym, beach, hiking, bike riding, with even an occasional binge watching of shows on Netflix.

Shadia Omer

Undergraduate of Social Work Intern, 1st year 

San Diego State University

Shadia is currently a senior at San Diego State University studying Social Work. She enjoys obtaining a healthy lifestyle and learning how to cook up new recipes. As a Social Work major she has a passion for helping the less fortunate meet their needs and moving forward with it. She loves to travel and exploring new places, and meeting new people. During her free time when she's not juggling school, work and her internship at Healthy Adventures Foundation, she loves TV shows and the entertainment industry as she writes for two entertainment websites about all things movies, TV shows and favorite celebrities. She is set to graduate with her BSW in May 2017 and hopes to go to graduate school to pursue a master's in post-secondary education.

Undergraduate Interns

San Diego State University, MiraCosta College

Every semester, we have between 3-5 undergraduate interns from a variety of degree specialities and experiences. They are very important in our youth programs, marketing, creating exercise or nutritional plans, going to events, and a variety of other tasks. We appreciate them for the short time they are with us and even sometimes bring them on as staff after their semester internship.
